SOFTBALL: U.S. returns to tour action on east coast with minor league stadium stops

For Immediate Release: 4/28/08 U.S. returns to tour action on east coast with minor league stadium stops OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- After a five-day break, the USA Softball Women's National Team (26-1) returns to KFC Bound 4 Beijing tour travel on Tuesday as they head east to Washington, Pa. The team will practice on Wednesday before taking the field on Thursday, May 1 at the Wildthings Frontier League Stadium against Robert Morris University at 7:30 p.m. (EST) . The U.S. will then take a quick trip down south to Plant City, Fla., home of West Central Florida ASA and the International Softball Federation. The Red, White and Blue will battle Florida Southern on May 3 at 7 p.m. (EST) at the Plant City Stadium, former home of a farm team from the Cincinnati Red. Then it's back north to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a match-up with the No. 5 Michigan Wolverines on Tuesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. (CST) . Heading back east, the U.S. will then return to Pennsylvania for a sold out game against ASA Regional All Stars on Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. (EST) in Williamsport, Pa. Bowman Field will host the team and serves as the home of the Williamsport Crosscutters, a single A farm team of the Philadelphia Phillies. Highlighting the week will be the team's trip near the Nation's capital on May 10 at 4 p.m. (EST) where they will meet up with the NPF's Washington Glory at the MLB minor league Baysox Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. Home of the Double AA team for the Baltimore Orioles, this stop could possibly break a tour record with over 7,500 tickets sold to date. The next week consists of four games and four states as the U.S. continues to prepare for Beijing. Leading the ranks is leftfielder Jessica Mendoza (Camarillo, Calif.) who is hitting .473 with 41 RBI including 11 home runs. As a team, the U.S. has outscored opponents 276-11 and is hitting .406 as a team. From the circle, the U.S. has held opponents to a .082 batting average and has a combined .43 ERA. Monica Abbott (Salinas, Calif.) has a team best perfect 7-0 record while Jennie Finch (La Mirada, Calif.) is leading in strikeouts with 91 in 45.1 innings pitched.
