Bustos hits two homeruns to pace USA Softball to 18-0 Win Rohnert Park, Calif.-In her first perfect game of the KFC Bound 4 Beijing Tour, Monica Abbott (Salinas, Calif.) helped lead the team to an 18-0 win over the Nor Cal Assault this afternoon in Rohnert Park, Calif., as part of the KFC Bound 4 Beijing Tour. Aiding on offense was Crystl Bustos (Canyon Country, Calif.) who was 2-for-2 with two homeruns and seven RBI. The team struck in the first loading up the bases with one out however three were left stranded after Kelly Kretschman (Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.) went deep into her count for a strikeout and a groundout by Andrea Duran (Selma, Calif.) left the bases loaded. Monica Abbott (Salinas, Calif.) earned the start in the circle, retiring her first five batters faced on strikeouts. Vicky Galindo (Union City, Calif.) put up the first RBI of the game with a double to centerfield to score Lauren Lappin (Anaheim, Calif.) and Jennie Finch (La Mirada, Calif.) for the team to take a 2-0 lead. Galindo scored, after reaching third on a passed ball, when Caitlin Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) singled. The team juiced up the bases again in the second with the single by Lowe, a single by Natasha Watley (Irvine, Calif.) and a walk by Jessica Mendoza (Camarillo, Calif.). This time no one was left stranded as Crystl Bustos (Canyon Country, Calif.) unleashed a ball past the outside left-field bleachers for four RBI and a 7-0 lead."I was really seeing the ball well today. Some days you got it and some days you don't and today was a good day. It was also good to see the team adjust to the pitcher and put up some big runs"said Bustos."I heard the crowd behind me and that really helped me. Monica threw real well today and it was good day for USA Softball."Bustos continued her run production with a three-run homerun in the third to give the team a 10-0 lead. Nor Cal Assault shut out the Red, White and Blue through the fourth and fifth innings but the team was not done scoring as they went on a six-hit, three walk, eight-run rally to take a 18-0 win. Highlighting the inning was a three-run homerun by Jessica Mendoza (Camarillo, Calif.) and a two-RBI single by Galindo. Abbott worked six complete innings for her first perfect game of the KFC Bound 4 Beijing Tour. She had 13 strikeouts with no balls reaching the outfield."I was excited to be back in Northern California and being able to see my family out there today was very humbling and supportive to me. I just went out there and tried to work on different pitches to help me prepare for the Games."There is no rest for the team as they travel tonight to Sacramento, Calif., to take on the Sacramento All-Star tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Continue to check out www.usasoftball.com for up-to-date information on the tour.
